This is an important time of year for council.

As the 2025-2026 Financial Year comes to a close we review our progress to date against the goals set at the beginning of the year.

Council reports on this progress every quarter to Council and the latest of these reports is available here for you to read: 2025-2026-Operational-Plan-Qtr-3-progress-statements-Magiq-79873-adopted-1952026.pdf(PDF, 625KB).

We are now focusing on setting the budget for the coming financial year.

To do that Council needs to determine its strategic priorities for the coming year, balancing what it would like to achieve with the funding available to determine our operational objectives.

With this in mind your elected representatives, the Councillors, will meet with the CEO, our Finance Team and other senior staff throughout the coming week to determine what those strategic and operational priorities will be for the coming year.

To support this important conversations, Councillors are also undertaking some Financial Training this week, being presented to them by the Queensland Treasury Corporation. Training that is specifically focused on the complicated finances of running a council, which is a lot more complicated that your everyday personal budgeting.

The results of this week will be a 2026-2027 Budget and the outlines of the 2026-2027 Operational Plan which we will share with you once they are formalised and finalised.
