Disaster Management
Wujal Wujal is a beautifully remote tropical location to live, but with frequent and often heavy rainfall in the ‘wet season’ flooding is a regular part of life up here.
There is also potential risk for more serious conditions to develop into a natural disasters such as cyclones and flooding which given the remote nature of our community can have a very significant impact for us.
The information in this section of our website is dedicated to providing you information so you are aware of the risks and can take personal steps to prepare yourself.
You will links to useful websites, documents and plans that provide information not only about what council is doing to prepare, but that are designed to help you be aware and ‘get ready’.
The Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) provides specific disaster management for our community. How the LDMG operates is determined by the Queensland.
Our LDMG is made up of representatives from key emergency and government service agencies, including Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Service, Queensland Fire Department and State Emergency Services as well as representatives from our local community and representatives from our immediate neighbours Cook and Douglas Shire Councils.
