Key dates
  • On 16 February 1980, the Bloomfield River Mission was officially renamed Wujal Wujal. 

  • On 29 October 1987, the Aboriginal reserve held by the Queensland Government was transferred to the trusteeship of the council under a Deed of Grant in Trust.  

  • On 1 January 2005, under the Local Government (Community Government Areas) Act 2004, Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Council became the Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council.

Wujal Wujal Foundation Day is a holiday for the Shire of Wujal Wujal aimed at celebrating the foundation of the community of Wujal Wujal.  The day is dedicated to honoring the local Aboriginal community and their rich cultural heritage. 

It is a time for the community to come together, celebrate traditions and reflect on the values and history of Wujal Wujal.  

The holiday is a significant event that promotes the preservation of the community's identity and it’s ongoing connection to their traditional lands and customs.
