It is with great pleasure we announce the adoption and publication of the Wujal Wujal 2023-2024 Annual Report.

Preparing and publishing an Annual Report is a legislative requirement, and there are regulations about what must be included in the report, such as our self-assessment of our performance against the priorities Council set for us, and a plain English ‘Community Finance Report’.

Typically, the 2023-2024 Annual Report would have been finalised by December 2024, but ours was delayed due to the complexity of our finances after the devastation of Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

Reading this report now is like stepping back in time to when:
  • Council was newly elected, they had only been in their roles for 2 months at the time this report was written
  • Community has only just returned to their homes after long displacement following the flooding
  • Signs of devastation were evident throughout the community, with flood high tide marks evident on walls, and flood debris still visible
  • The roads into and out of Community to Cooktown were still in a state of repair, with significant travel delays due to reconstruction
  • The ‘Coast Track’ was being rebuilt and had not yet reopened and the Art Centre was still covered in tree debris

Thank you again to everyone who was involved in the response and recovery efforts following Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

We have made significant progress since this report was written and hope you enjoy reading this and looking back at that point in time, knowing how far we have come since then.
