Sorry Business

‘Sorry Business’ is an expression used by Aboriginal and and Torres Strait Islander people for the time of mourning in the community. The term can also be used to refer to events that separate us from our culture and our land.

The level of mourning reflects the importance of the family or person who has died and helps the family and community to cope with the loss.

Wujal Wujal Aboriginal Shire Council requests that external agencies respect the community during such times. We ask that business and other visitors postpone community visits during the funeral and mourning period. Council offices will not open and Kotzur Road and Douglas Road will be closed at such times.

However, important essential services such as police, child safety, health, education and justice hearings will continue to operate.

Wujal Wujal community members and elders can use our Community Forum to advise other local residents of news about Sorry Business in the community. This is a closed forum for locals only.
